A New Beginning: Suggestions? - 2007/10/31 21:43 Because the game is getting a new start and everyone is getting reset, this is probably a good time to talk about some things that could be changed. Granted, Remote is not on board anymore and it will be awhile before Weebo gets the latest code, but if you have any ideas for SIMPLE changes (things that wouldn't take a lot of coding), this would probably be a good time for them. Here's mine...

Change the map!

The current map is good, but it's getting way too predictable. Everyone builds the same cities; nothing changes. A new map - especially one with rotating cities - would be awesome...it would be a breath of fresh air for the game.

Another good reason for this - EVENTS! Everyone loves BCL, turf wars, wall wars, etc...just look at the player population when events are going on. The problem is that they are a pain in the ass to run, mostly because the current map wasn't designed with events in mind. If we dedicated a couple of rows of cities to build arenas for different events, it would make things way easier to set up and run, and I think you would see event hosts much more willing to put on events consistently.

What do you guys think?

Re:A New Beginning: Suggestions? - 2007/10/31 21:55 We should definitely dedicate at least 4 cities to events only. That would completely resolve an interference problem that we may have. Would it also be possible for admins to be able to drop a super wall that can't be destroyed?<--that would go a long way.

Re:A New Beginning: Suggestions? - 2007/10/31 22:24 Redoing some of the images would be nice. not too much of a difference, but at leas something. Just so we can tell theres someting new

I like the idea about having cities for events, but lets no go crazy with events. They make the game fun, but once we start making event, after event, after event, they won't be as fun as they were before. Maybe like 1 or 2 a week.

I like the idea about the super wall. It shouldnt be too hard to make one i think. just make another item slot, invert the normal wall's colors, and BAM! you got a new superwall!

Re:A New Beginning: Suggestions? - 2007/11/01 03:49 In all honesty there were hundreds of good suggestions that players came up with which would have had a positive effect on the game that for the most part were either ignored or dismissed. You can remake the map if you wish, as long as you leave Bahia as it is

As far as suggestions go I am not sure if they (Weebo and possibly Vindkast) are going to want to do any code changes until they get the most recent code. It may not be so easy to copy and paste in the new code. Then again I could be completely wrong about this.

Re:A New Beginning: Suggestions? - 2007/11/01 04:32 i THINK but dont quote me on this, they are going to try to restore some of the changes that were already made.

things like

tank switching
membership
dfg quit thingy
etc etc

this would at least be the smarter thing to do since when tehy get the current code it will be done already.

Re:A New Beginning: Suggestions? - 2007/11/01 16:38 One of the problemw ith city rotations is it would take away from store. I do think we should have a monthly membership that would allow larger contributors more benefits:IE, Access to all cities, ect ect. That would bring more income to the game to help pay for server cost. I also think with Remote leaving, weebo should finally enpower admins to police the game. Especially now that turretrushing is back. Theres already been one complaint of someone locking city cc's down with turrets. We've been down the "let the game police itself." road, and frankly, it DOES NOT WORK.Pick admins, give them a strict set of rules/code to go by. I also think we should have a "arena" for events as well...Instead of a superwall, just enclose the area with rock walls. Noone would be able to get into the area of the cities except for people actually in the cities. The Far NE corner of the map would be perfect for this. And it probly wouldnt take very much effort to do it (code wise). Ive always wanted to do something similar (block off a city from the rest of the map) to start a battlecity "school" to teach new players...Its far too difficult to try and train new players to build when you got players like merloch circling their city licking their chops ready to orb them soon as they hit 11...This way they could practice building without fear of being orbed right away, and they would not be able to attack as they would be blocked off by the rock walls from the rest of the map. When they feel a little more confident with their abilities they can go build on the regular map and test their skills

Re:A New Beginning: Suggestions? - 2007/11/02 02:10 I am pretty sure that changing the BC MAP would be the easiest thing to do, ever. First off, I believe the current map is structured of a simple .BMP image, but I am not 100% sure of this. I think the image works like this:

Color #1 - ground
Color #2 - lava
Color #3 - rocks

We should ask Hanzie, who created the city designer!

Re:A New Beginning: Suggestions? - 2007/11/02 08:38 Mak events won't be done, Simply because the ones who have the Admin are to lazy to do anything.

I have requested time and time and time again about me having any chance a player of 2 and a half years to become a event host and I have been turned down time and time again.

I am tired of people complaining and nobody doing anything. People want events so give them what they want. Bc is nothing without members just like any other online game the PEOPLE keep the game running the game is made for PEOPLE so why hold the PEOPLE or PERSONS back from trying to help the community I am outraged. I only get a 10 second showdown to run around in circles as if I would try to ban someone when I get a chance to get admin.

I am OUTraged and being treated like a prisoner that would strike at the first chance he gets. It is a known fact that events are what bring people to BC not the normal bullshit playing same cities every day for countless hours for "points" that DONT EVEN MEAN NOTHING anymore.

Weebo you say I have to prove myself, when I go to almost every event and never have thought of trashing one. You say I need to help or host events, Me and alot of others have tried but the community and most the people you entrust the "admin" with destroy it just as fast as any person that does not like me or that other.

I am simply tired of running in circles just like others

Re:A New Beginning: Suggestions? - 2007/11/03 20:06 Regarding map(s)

Once upon a time there was a battlecity mad-editor on the old site. I bet it would be the easiest tool (maybe with some alteration) to change the map.

The best way to separate events from regular play would be to have two available maps. How hard this is to code I have no idea. But the gain on how much easier it would be to host events from a custom made map is tremendous.

For example: A host would be able to make a gauntlet map with all obstacles hard coded in like rocks or lava. Just having an unorbable event means noone can sabo it no mather how hard they try.
This also applies to turf wars etc.

BCL would be better as well as a ref could customize all the different terrains around the cities making it more fair depending in which city you are. Again noone will be able to wander of from regular play and interfere.

The best way to implement this is to have it as a choice in the meeting room, having the event cities listed with the others or in the same window.

I don't know shit about the coding for this game so I don't even know if it can handle two different maps, or if it is possible to create a cloned server with the event cities so you choose map before entering the meeting room.
