Read It, Bitches! - 2007/10/15 08:45 Can't sleep.

SO here's a couple suggestions.

First, and the one I'd like to emphasize most, is: try new things!

I've seen tons of good ideas on the forums. They get debated to hell and nothing ever happens because we can't all agree on the best variation of it. There are always, ALWAYS things about an idea people don't really like. Well, I think we should just go ahead and try them. You never know how a change will unexpectedly change game play and people might really enjoy it! And if it doesn't - well then just undo it after a month - at least we'll know what works and what doesn't. I don't see the harm... I mean, at this point, BC, I hate to say it, is pretty much dead. We sometimes get some good population time periods, but we're for sure on the deathbed. So we really can't do any worse!

Here's where I'm coming from. This seasons BCL is probably the most successful one I've seen (although I guess I've only seen 2 or 3). This one feels like it's got a lot more hype about it. People are always talking about it, and it's getting great turnouts so far (hopefully more in the coming weeks!). But, If I remember correctly, it almost didn't happen. We didn't have enough interest. Then Nightwish decided that wtf, I'm gonna run it anyway just based on who shows up, without any preset clans or teams. If this idea was debated, we'd probably turn it down (and don't say 'No, we'd accept it.'- remember, hindsight is always 20/20). But it's very successful. Of course the free tanks have a lot to do with it, but still.

So I really think we should start introducing, like, a new idea a month or something. As long as remote can keep up, of course. They may not all work, they may have bugs that we can fix as we go, and they may work in ways we don't want them to. On the other hand, they may actually really improve game-play, bring our populations up, and take BC in a new direction! Remember, we can always hit the undo button if we don't like something - but you miss all the shots you don't take...

Re:Read It, Bitches! - 2007/10/15 09:15 More ideas, fuckers!

-Raise the orb limit to 20.
See how it goes. Laming really seems to be a big problem right now... and we've tried addressing it a couple ways, but ppl are still getting lamed. So let's try this one. I imagine it's very easy to implement, so let's see what happens... The other suggestions I've seen for this problem seem very complex. (I just read the cliff notes to Weebo's city design-mode/ready button/invisible buildings post.... man... fuck your girlfriend more! Put that energy to good use!)

- Track people's number of kills!! It occurred to me today that this is kind of a basic player stat that we just don't track! I have no idea how many peepz I've killed... I have a feeling this is not easy to program though...

- Remove distance limit on mines so attackers can use em.
Increase mine production by 5. To compensate, give the mayor of cities built in armor which doubles their life. Find a way to give the stay-home defender same (but make sure he can't attack with it).

-Rotate opening cities! Why did we stop doing this again?

- Make the 'opening cities' grid bigger. Right now, all the opening cities are next to each other. Maybe increase the pool so they're not necessarily next to each other. This potentially increases the distance between opening cities, but that may give new cities more time to build up. Keep the same number of opening cities...

Here's one...
- Capture the flag!
Right now the objective of the game is to orb the other cities. Add an alternative objective. Each CC houses a flag for that city. If you penetrate an enemy city and get to their CC, you can either orb them for the 50 points, or capture their flag and bring it back to your CC. Now your job is to keep the flag for as long as you can. Turn a timer on when the enemy flag comes back to base. You get some points at every 2/5/10/whatever minute interval.
Cities without flags can't orb anything.
You can steal more then one flag at a time.
This could be something stacked cities do... rather then orbing the other cities, just take like 3 noob-city flags and see if they can D em... Though this mainly came to me since these days there's usually at most just 2 real cities at a time... This way you can keep playing between the 2 cities...

-Make a city's orb value dependant on additional factors.
Right every time you orb, your city value goes up. Maybe an average player point count of 30k/50k/100k increases city value by 5/10/20/whatever points. Although smurfing could get around this one.
Maybe length of time on map increases value. This way when a mayor is taking really long getting over the orbable limit, the other cities know that when it does finally become available, it'll be worth that much more.

-Make each of the 4 positions in a city specific.
This one is probably not worth it cost/benefit wise, but just throwing it out there. Make a Mayor, a Defender, an Orber, and an Attacker. Then add and remove abilities to make em unique. Examples:
The mayor gets extra armour, but reduced shot length.
The defender is exempt from friendly turret fire, but takes slightly more damage from enemy fire
(Oh, and maybe he can't leave the perimeter of the city when there's a red dot in that same perimeter)
The orber can move a lil faster? But takes more damage from mines?
The attacker gets a bigger cock? I dunno folks help me out!

-Increase city ppl size from 4 to 5.
Allow more then 4 peeps in a city, but don't change the number of items a factory produces? The mayor can decide to have 5 ppl where 2 are only half equipped, or 4 fully equipped people...

Anyway, there's a few ideas... Can people tear holes in them big enough to drive trucks through? Probably... But just reading over the list again, I know theres a few ideas where I'm going 'Hmm It'd be interesting to see how that one would work out...' And of course, these aren't fleshed out... just basic ideas that we can solidify if we decide to try it.

The main thing is, I'd like us to try new things and see what happens

Re:Read It, Bitches! - 2007/10/15 14:58 I really love that capture the flag idea. That a whole perspective thats never even been mentioned before that could be really interesting and add a whole new level of strategy.

The interesting part is that stacked cities by nature would not instinctively wipe everyone out, but instead try to battle everyone at once in order to capture their flags and then defend their base to keep them captured.
